Kalma Wellness App

Project Overview:

As part of an assignment at Ironhack, I collaborated with a team of 4 members on the design journey of Kalma, a wellness app tailored specifically for parents facing stress management challenges amidst the demands of parenthood. Kalma aims to provide a sanctuary for parents to find relaxation and support, addressing their unique struggles in maintaining mental balance while juggling multiple responsibilities.

Problem Statement:

Busy parents with small children need a way to easily de-stress and relax from their daily schedule because they want to keep their energy levels balanced throughout the day.

Process:

  • Discover and Define: Conducted desk research, surveys, and interviews to understand user needs and preferences. Shifted focus to parents with stress problems based on insights gathered.
  • Persona and Journey Mapping: Developed personas and journey maps to empathize with users' experiences, shedding light on the challenges faced by individuals such as Emma Jansen, a primary school teacher with a young child. Emma's daily routine involves juggling multiple responsibilities, leaving her with little time to rest and recharge.
  • Mid-Fi Design: Experimented with mid-fidelity designs, refining prioritization, site map, and visual elements to align with the app's soothing nature-inspired theme.
  • High-Fi Design: Elevated the prototype to high-fidelity design, incorporating a calming color palette and a charming sloth mascot to evoke feelings of relaxation and simplicity.

Challenges:

  • Understanding User Needs: Navigating the complex needs of parents in managing their well-being amidst parenthood required thorough research and empathy.
  • Iterative Design Process: Balancing iterative design with project timelines presented challenges in refining the app prototype to perfection while prioritizing features.
  • Visual Design and Branding: Crafting a visually appealing and cohesive design aesthetic in line with the app's theme posed challenges in selecting suitable visual elements and branding elements.

Results:

The culmination of the project was the creation of the Kalma app prototype, aimed at providing parents with tools and resources to manage stress and find relaxation. Key features included tips for dealing with stress, sleep tracking, and a community of parents for support and solidarity. The app's design embodied tranquility and simplicity, with a soothing nature-inspired color palette and a delightful sloth mascot.
